Tender opportunity: new digital technologies for the personalized management of congenital and complex conditions

Vall d’Hebron University Hospital launches €7.3 million tender to advance Digital Twins and AI for personalised healthcare

The purpose of this contract is to provide a development service in the field of congenital and complex diseases through the use and co-development of solutions based on the adoption of new digital technologies for the personalized management of these conditions (3Dx3C).

These pathologies are characterized by significant clinical and diagnostic variability, making it necessary to advance toward care models based on personalized medicine, with the aim of improving health outcomes and patients’ quality of life.

Vall d’Hebron University Hospital (HUVH), a reference centre and member of several European Reference Networks (ERNs), is leading this initiative within an operation linked to the objective of “A More Competitive and Smarter Europe”, under Investment Priority 1C: Digital and Smart Transition – STEP (Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform).

Congenital and complex conditions require personalized care models supported by data and advanced technologies. The project promotes the use of digital twins to improve clinical decision-making and personalize treatments. This transformation is only feasible through close collaboration with industry, focused on the co-development of integrated and scalable solutions.

The project’s objective is to define personalized predictive models through digital twins linked to each patient’s clinical profile, in order to optimize diagnosis, planning, and guidance of surgical and interventional procedures, as well as medical treatments.

In this context, the project foresees the co-development of disruptive digital solutions in collaboration with industry, within the priority sectors of robotics, navigation, computing, and artificial intelligence.

The 3Dx3C project provides a distinctive added value by enabling the co-development and adoption of advanced digital technologies in a coordinated manner within a healthcare environment, thereby transforming the management of congenital and complex diseases.

The main objective is to ensure that these solutions reach the market and can be adopted as clinical decision-support tools, systematically used in routine clinical practice to advance medicine toward more sophisticated and personalized diagnostic and therapeutic approaches tailored to each patient.

One of the project’s most notable features is its public-private co-development approach, whereby Vall d’Hebron University Hospital acts as both a driving force and a clinical validation environment, ensuring that technological developments respond to the real clinical needs of the Catalan healthcare system.

This model has the potential to accelerate technological maturity and effectively facilitate knowledge transfer to the region’s healthcare and industrial ecosystem.
