NIH Call: Digital Twins for Biomedical, Biological and Behavioral Research

The U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) is highlighting new research opportunities in Digital Twins for Biomedical, Biological, and Behavioral Research, supporting innovative approaches to accelerate scientific discovery and advance healthcare technologies.

NHI invites researchers to develop and apply fit-for-purpose (FFP) digital twins to address challenges across biomedical, biological, and behavioral research.

Areas of interest include the integration of multimodal and longitudinal data, real-time data assimilation, model validation and uncertainty quantification, interoperable computational architectures, and responsible governance of digital twin technologies. Potential applications span a wide range of fields, including cancer, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, genomics, infectious diseases, mental health, diabetes, environmental health and women’s health.

Researchers interested in this emerging field are encouraged to review the NIH Highlighted Topic and identify the most appropriate funding opportunity for their research. The initiative is active from 10 September 2026 through 10 September 2028.
