In tribute to Professor Reinhard Schneider

Professor Schneider was a leading figure in bioinformatics and computational biology. As a full professor at the University of Luxembourg and a key member of the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB), he made major contributions to the development of data science and bioinformatics in Luxembourg and beyond. His scientific career was characterised by a strong commitment to data integration, knowledge management and the advancement of computational approaches to biomedicine.

His impact also extended deeply into the in silico medicine community. For several years, Professor Schneider served as a member of the Board of Directors of the VPH Society, representing the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine. In this role, he contributed to the strategic development of our organisation and to its mission of advancing in silico medicine and computational approaches to healthcare. His presence on the Board reflected his commitment to fostering collaboration across disciplines and to strengthening the role of computational science in biomedical research.

Beyond his scientific achievements, Professor Schneider will be remembered for his generosity, curiosity, and collaborative spirit. His scientific excellence and entrepreneurial vision had a lasting impact on the international bioinformatics community and on the many researchers he inspired and supported.

For the VPH community, his contribution represents an important part of our shared history. We are grateful for the expertise, dedication and collegiality he brought to the VPH Society and to the wider field of in silico medicine.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, students and collaborators. His scientific legacy and his contribution to the VPH will be remembered.
