Workshop: Bridging Aerosol Science and Respiratory Health: Challenges and Opportunities in Modelling Aerosols in the Lung
This workshop brings together clinical researchers, academic scientists, and industry partners to explore key challenges in understanding respiratory aerosols and their behaviour in the human lung.
When: 22 June 2026 from 10:00 to 16:00
Where: University of Manchester, Manchester, England
Applications range from inhaled drug delivery and the transmission of infectious diseases to the health impacts of air pollution. Through focused talks and collaborative discussion, it aims to identify the major unknowns in mathematically and computationally modelling aerosol transport, deposition, and clearance in respiratory pathways. The workshop will highlight how existing device technologies and measurement capabilities can inform and constrain modelling efforts, and it will lay the groundwork for future interdisciplinary research directions that advance both scientific understanding and practical healthcare outcomes.
Objectives
- Knowledge exchange between groups working on modelling the behaviour of aerosols in the context of human health.
- Identification of key gaps in current modelling capabilities and key opportunities for the use of computational modelling of aerosol for health applications.
- Foster new multi-disciplinary collaborations between academia and industry to address these gaps and harness these opportunities.
