VPH at EUPATI Expert Patient Academy event
On 19 May 2026, colleagues from VPH joined a public event in Milan hosted by EUPATI Italia and the IEO European Institute of Oncology to discuss the increasing importance of the role of patient in medical research and innovation.

The event brought together researchers, healthcare professionals, patient representatives and policy stakeholders to discuss how patients are increasingly becoming active contributors to the development of healthcare solutions, rather than passive recipients of care. Discussions explored the evolving role of patients across the entire research pathway — from study design and clinical development to regulatory processes, data sharing and healthcare decision-making.
Particular attention was given to the value of patient perspectives in improving the relevance, transparency and societal impact of medical research. Speakers highlighted how patient engagement can contribute to more inclusive clinical studies, better understanding of unmet medical needs and stronger trust between citizens and the scientific community.
For our society being in that room reflected something we believe in: computational approaches only fulfill their potential when they are built with (and for) the people they are meant to help.
